According to most experts the Heavy Metal genre began in 1964 with bands like The Kinks and The Who. Alice Cooper is considered the first metal artist. The style becomes very popular between 1966-1970 when onto the music scene come Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath. At the end of the 70s the metal is in crisis and is overshadowed by punk with its brightest stars The Sex Pistols and Iggy Pop.
